Everyone's a Foreigner

About the podcast

It all started with a connection, a conversation, and a little coaxing from my conscience. The connection is a friend who has her own podcast business and I've learned so much from her team. The conversation was a friend who has a shared experience of being foreign and a larger concept of the world. The coaxing from my conscience is realizing that a podcast is a unique combination of my experiences, education, travels, strengths, and sense of purpose.

We all have strengths but we don't always have the courage to use our strengths to the best of our ability. I realized years ago that we're all a foreigner to someone because of the multiple cultures we were individually raised in and these cultures impact our perception of the world. Those cultures include our family culture, friends culture, work culture, language culture and geographic culture. These different cultures inadvertently create a chasm of misunderstandings and assumptions when we leave the known cultures of our youth to enter the broader culture of the world around us.

This podcast is meant to be a space to discuss individual experiences on being foreign which usually means that the guests will have been an expat for at least 6 months. Each season is the same topic to discuss from different point of view and experiences.

Experience is not what happens to you; it's what you do with what happens to you. Aldous Huxley
